Danny Glover has been a staple in the entertainment industry for decades, as many of us consider The Color Purple a universal classic and fan favorite. On Saturday, Mr. Glover celebrated his 71st birthday with an exquisite fundraiser dinner for The Center For Nu Leadership on the lawn of a breathtakingly beautiful estate in South LA. The affair was hosted by three siblings Starlett, Brickell and Quenten Quarles, who continue to serve the community proudly through a myriad of initiatives. Malik Yoba and Sabra Williams served well as masters of ceremony. While Mr. Glover may serve as the new brand ambassador for the newly established LA chapter, the human justice organization has been serving the community-at-large for years now in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.
The homepage of the organization’s website immediately relishes this quote. “From criminal justice to human justice…transforming the practice of public safety, justice and accountability from criminal to human” In setting itself apart, the website boasts of it being the first and only independent public policy, research, training and advocacy organization designed and developed by formerly incarcerated professionals and staffed by people directly impacted by the criminal punishment system.
Check out my video highlighting the event, including red carpet interviews with Danny Glover and a host of notable attendees including Omar McGee, Zaneta Smith, Jabari K. Smith, Dallas Fowler, and Tiffany Johnson.
